This morning I woke up, glanced outside and it was extremely smoky, I could even smell the smoke. Later on today I heard on the radio that there are 285 fires burning in the next province west of Alberta. Apparently British Columbia has an astronomical amount of forest fires and the wind was carrying the smoke into Alberta. We went into town today and the following photos will give you an idea of how much smoke filled the air.
This is a photo of some of the flowers which adorn the town, on the top of the post is the Blue Heron, the towns official ... hmmm...mascot, for lack of a better word at the moment.
... one of the grain elevators in town. The wind died down and the smoke lifted later on in the day which was nice, I hope that they get the fires under control in BC and some of the 600 and some odd families can return to their homes soon.
This next photo has nothing to do with the smoke today, I just like it.
I call this one "Work In Progress" ... notice the sledge hammer, makes me wonder what in the heck Herb does to these old vehicles although he must be doing something right, they seem to run when he's done tinkering with them.

Have you ever considered that it may be Herb's old truck that put out all that smoke - and the sledge hammer put an end to it (thus no direct evidence)???
ReplyDeleteBut LL it's a "new" rad plus it's a newer truck recently purchased at the auction, it wouldn't smoke like that...no sirree, not this baby.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the smoke, hope that the wind will blow it away soon. I wish you strongest rain to finish all the fires.
ReplyDeletei hope you get a nice long gentle rain to put out all the fires and wash away the smoke.
ReplyDeletei'd love to be the owner of that work in progress.
what an awesome old vehicle.
love the color.
very cool photo.
have a wonderful weekend.
Every mechanic need a big hammer. Good luck with the smoke and I like your floral shots on your previous post.
ReplyDeleteIrina I'm sure that this is minor compared to what you had to endure. I was mentioning the smoke in Moscow to my boyfriend and he said to me "so you think that all this smoke is coming from there?" ... he was teasing me naturally! I sure hope that BC does get torrential downpours and the folks can get back to their homes.
ReplyDeleteChasity, there's so many old vehicles out here which are a work in progress and I'm sure that each time I come to the farm there's a "new" one which was bought at an auction for just the right price. I love to photograph them and what I'm going to do is have my boyfriend an album made of his "toys" for Christmas. He never comes to blogger so he's not going to know about this! :-) I hope that you also have an awesome weekend.
Chad, that's hilarious! No mechanic with a big hammer is going to fix my little car if anything goes wrong with it even if the price is right! :-) And thank you for the compliment on my floral shots. Have a fantastic weekend!
I recall that our company in Calgary had to send everyone home one afternoon because smoke from forest fires 500km north had filled the building! So I empathize.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could use tinker and sledgehammer in the same sentence without my tongue being firmly planted in my cheek! Great shot of the truck - another one for the album !
LOL Rick, I'm going to learn to watch my word choices around you! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteI will put this one in the album, I was contemplating it but after all the positive feedback it's a keeper, thank you.
There was still smoke in the air today, not quite as bad but the drive home to the city seemed like I was in the Twilight Zone for a while there. There's even a haze over the city, not horribly bad but it's there.
I just love all three photographs but like the truck one most. Fingers crossed for all the families near the fires.
ReplyDeleteSi
What a beautiful set of pictures - My favorite is the sky blue Truck :-)
ReplyDeleteGreetz,
Joseph
Thanks Si. I didn't have time today to listen to the news but the smoke in the air has cleared up quite a bit so that's a good sign.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joseph, I'll add this one as a keeper for the album based on the comments I've received on it!
You're all helping me immensely to put this album together, thanks! :-)
