So if it's supposedly illegal to purchase and smoke marijuana why is it legal to sell all of the paraphernalia? I feel that our government should make up their minds...it is or it isn't alright to smoke MJ, none of this in-between stuff. I oppose it yet many disagree with me, we're all entitled to our own opinions thanks to freedom of speech.
Funny that you mention it, I thought about this same issue a few days ago - Since around here they also have a few of these rather "questionable" shops . . . Hmmm . . .
ReplyDeleteThe Dutch however solved the problem pretty well, they legalized smoking Marijuana, and as we all know when the forbidden fruits are no longer prohibited - They become "In Most Cases" less desirable ;-)
By the way, isn't it so that the consumption of Marijuana in Canada is also about to become legal?
Greetz,
Joseph
Joseph I don't believe that it's been legalized here yet. I only found very limited information in doing a quick online search. One 16 year old had a darn good lawyer who got him off, it seems that the Canadian courts had ordered the laws to be changed regarding medicinal usage, the law was never proposed, the year had passed which was the allocated time frame so the kid got off. Apparently the judge went as far as to say that even if it was for the purpose of trafficking he would have dismissed the charges.
ReplyDeleteI sit on the fence in regards to legalizing marijuana, sure grow it and tax it but then are we going to create within our society a bunch of potheads? Or will it be like you said, less desirable? I think that people are going to do what people are going to do regardless of laws imposed within any society, unfortunately but true.
Have a great day Joseph! Cheers.

ReplyDeleteExactly, we can only oppose or at least try our best in keeping our children, families and communities from smoking pot. But as you said, there are people out there who are going to do whatever and whenever regardless the laws and what we think!
Have a great weekend :-)
Greetz,
Joseph
Tough question. I think even the Dutch are having second thoughts due to the criminal element that drugs attract. Strictly speaking it's not legal in Canada but most police look the other way if someone smokes up - not worth the hassle and the courts will likely either throw it out or dispense a (very light) slap on the wrist.
ReplyDeleteRegulating it might have some benefits - removes the allure of high profits for gangs and brings in tax revenue. At first there might be a big rush (pardon the pun) by people to buy it but I think that would wear off fairly quickly. Look at what's happening in Mexico due to the 'war' on drugs especially marijuana - is it worth 28,000 killed in 3 years ?
Wow - what kind of a blog did I end up on ? ;-)
Yes, Rick! We are now being watched by Big Brother . . . LOL
ReplyDelete:-D ;-) :-D
Greetz,
Joseph
Rick it's still me, just with a different spin on my blog... I'll return to my regularly scheduled blog in no time at all. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was just driving by this shop at a snails pace and got to thinking about the whole marijuana issue. Legalized or not people are still going to smoke marijuana, it's like alcohol and look at what transpired with prohibition. So now what I question is should those who choose to use it be taxed the same as those who consume alcohol,or smoke cigarettes or do we just ignore this and keep out heads in the sand? A very controversial issue, one which those who don't use it might not support legalization and those who do might support it.
And Joseph, you're now being watched by Little Sister, not so much Big Brother. Big Brother is too busy ignoring the entire matter and wasting tax dollars! lol
... speaking of MJ, it was just on the news that if California legalizes and taxes marijuana that British Columbia will lose one of, if not it's largest cash resource. Interesting, very interesting. This could
ReplyDeleteoops... could easily open up a whole new can of worms but I'll leave it alone, for now.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you Governments know nothing, they are clueless. We need them like hole in the head! More harm is done by wine, beer, cider and spirits each year yet they do nothing about that.
ReplyDeleteName me one Government that has a finger on the pulse its pubic.
Si x
Si is actually right!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Sunday, Little Sister :-D
Greetz,
Joseph
Si yes I agree that there is so much harm and damage caused by alcohol and not a single thing is being done about it. Tax dollars matter more than life and/or quality of life. Sure the odd rehab place is erected, what the hell good is that when the first place they pass is either the liquor store or a bar when they leave rehab? I can't name any government, notta one Si which is sad but true in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteJoseph, I think it's safe to say that the 3 of us are on the same page with this one. Smiling at the "Little Sister" comment and you have an awesome Sunday as well.... you too Si!
