Ask Your Auntie

Today I went downtown to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to attend an event hosted by the Aboriginal Woman's Professional Association. I'm a member of the AWPA and don't get the opportunity to attend many events which they host and today I figured that I'd make the time and check this one out. Before the main event took place Herb Stanley played a few different songs on various flutes. The music was so soothing, the type of music I can get lost in, the type of music which touches the soul.

The event was Ask Your Auntie, audience members could ask the "Aunties" questions and one of them would respond. Even though I didn't have any questions for the Aunties I'm glad that I attended, I came away with new knowledge and a sense of feeling good. I think that CBC is going to broadcast portions of this event, when I don't know but if I find out I'll post a link for anyone who might want to check it out.

The Aunties are all a part of the AWPA as well.

  1. I can see the soothing-ness on the face of the Flutist, very well captured :-)

  4. Great that you found time to see the event. You inspire me to do the same at least once a week.

  5. Oh I love flute music! so calming and peaceful...I bet the questions were quite interesting too...what a neat thing to watch...I once went to an art fair at our University of Minnesota and they had a tribe (I forget their name sorry) that brought their drums and played some very different entertaining music, I normally wouldn't have heard! Very cool....did anyone ask where the uncles were? LOL

  6. Irina I'm glad to hear that you're making time for yourself, I feel that we all need it to keep sane in this insane world. :-)

Karen, that's awesome that you got to hear the drums. Did you know that the drum in Indigenous culture represents the heartbeat? If you ever get the opportunity to hear this again just feel your heartbeat to the drums, it's so hmmm what's the word, so invigorating, calming, or just plain cool! I shouldn't assume that this is the same everywhere, that's how it is here in the Cree culture. I wonder, never mind wonder we have the internet, doh! lol
Here's a link to some drum music, turn off your mind, listen with your heart and see how it feels if you'd like to give it a shot.

  8. I prefer flute music when the flutist is charming a cobra. (for the record) But under the circumstances, I'm waiting for you to load the contents of the CD onto your blog. You might help him out and sell more CD's for him in that way...

  9. LL I'll have to try to figure that one out, good idea though. Thanks. And what's with you and snakes? A phase or a passion?

  10. Isn't it great when you get motivated to do something and get over the inertia of just staying put (especially in winter) - and then the event makes it all worthwhile !

Nice break from the studying routine, isn't it. Good captures Darlene ! Hope your weekend is going just as well.

  11. Oh, and I love your new header - has it been up for a while or was I observant ?

  12. Rick it sure was great, not it's challenging to get to these piles of reading. Oh well, I'm going to learn how to read in my sleep! lol

You're very observant, I shot this photo when I was down at the City Centre Mall yesterday, it was outside of Winners and I immediately thought it'd be an awesome blogger header. Thanks Rick!

  14. Great stuff thanks darlin! Isn't it amazing how we have almost anything at the touch of keys...on the internet! ;)

  15. Darlin - I'm not a vast fan of serpents. I simply think that the flute music show is more fun when there's a cobra staring at the flutist from a basket. It's all about the SHOW.

  16. Si, that they are. I think that the element of surprise always adds the extra bit of fun, especially when one never knows what to expect.

Karen, I LOVE having knowledge, entertainment, or whatever else we get from the internet at my fingertips. Remember the Encyclopedia's that almost every home had? The knowledge was so limited but I used to sit and read them, they used to excite me, all that knowledge, that and I love books.

LL I've never seen the cobra staring at the flutist, well I guess that I have in OLD movies so that's one thing I'm going to add to my "Wanna Do" list (no bucket list here because I'm not going to kick the bucket anytime in the near future the good Lord willing. I'll most likely "get it" when I see this and experience it firsthand. ;-)
