Today was an awesome day, for the most part. I did an interview with one of the residents from the Old Folks Home and that was phenomenal. Next I met up with a friend at the university and had a wonderful visit, but then when it came time to get to class I got lost. Good thing that I gave myself a half hour to find where I needed to be.
I'd walked for about 25 minutes then I started taking photos of buildings after I was sure that I'd walked by this one at least 2, maybe 3 times. Funny how it worked out though, once I snapped this photo, I looked up ahead and there it was, the building I needed. Some days me and my sense (or lack of) of direction I tell ya!

I'm too good at not getting lost. There have been times we were out driving just for fun and I decided to try to get lost just to see what cool places we discover as we find our way back. I'll drive for a while, turning on random roads and not watching signs or anything. Then when we decide its time to go back, I make a turn or two and know exactly where I am! It's frustrating sometimes! Oh well, a blessing and a curse I guess!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you were just meant to get a picture of that building for some reason! It looks like a cool building!
I agree with The Book Nut - I think you were meant to get that picture for some reason???
ReplyDeleteI think that maybe I needed some fresh air and exercise! lol Either way I think that next time I'll pay a wee bit more attention.
ReplyDeleteAndy I'd love to take you to the university and put you in the middle of a pedway, then tell you to get to a certain point, the university's HUGE! If you get a chance just google the University of Alberta, then imagine finding one class tucked away in one of the buildings which twists and turns. It's hard to describe, it's not take a left, right then another two lefts and you're there! That's awesome however that you don't get lost when you're driving, that's a bit easier when there's street signs!
Have a great day Davine and Andy!
Darlin, you're TOO YOUNG to be lodged in an old folks home. But since you seem bound and determined -- the checkers are NOT cookies. ;^)
ReplyDeleteNice evening shot of a grand old building...with the warm glow of lights...looks lovely even if it is out in the cold of winter! Glad you found your ....but hey we got a nice photo out of your journey along the way! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteDarlene, maybe it is time that you get yourself a GPS ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreetz,
Joseph
Hi Darlene
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to read about your interview with the resident from the Old Folks Home. :-)
~Ron
I, too, would love to hear about the interview. Hope you will share. I like the story about finding your way, and there it was!
ReplyDeleteLoved the pic beautiful old building, sorry you got lost. I am the world's worst at getting lost, can lose my way in my own back yard, lol. Blessings jane
ReplyDeleteLL, now how would you know that? lol Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteKaren, thanks. It was a fantastic day, I only have one small complaint, the days go way to fast!
Joseph, I was walking when I got lost this time... wait a second I was walking the last time I got lost! lol I wonder if they have the GPS on cellphones for when I'm walking, including underground pedways. I'm going to have to check into this, maybe there is something out there. I never thought of that, thanks Joseph. :-) Cheers!
Ron, once I start to transcribe some of the interview I might include glimpses into the interview here. It was so interesting the things this fella shared with me. The one thing that really touched me was when he shared with me his journey on growing old, he said that we're taught how to be young, we're taught how to be middle aged but nobody ever teaches you how to grow old. I've been reflecting on that piece of the interview and it's so true. There's stages in growing old but unless you've studies in a psyc course or read up on it then how else are you going to know what these stages are and that it's "normal" to go through them. There was definitely some interesting conversation yesterday AND the bonus is that I got a hug before I left! ;-)
Galen, if you read the above comment I shared the one thing which really touched me from the interview. There was so much more but I'm still processing it all and haven't even thought of transcribing any of it yet. It'll all come together and I'll share here and there pieces from the interviews I do. That or maybe dedicate one blog to my new found friends after I have some writing together... now there's an idea. Thanks! :-)
Jane, we'd best not go out together, that or bring the credit cards so that we can find a place to camp out on our journey back! lol
Nice story and great idea:).
ReplyDeleteRegards dear.
Most GPS devices nowadays (Garmin, TomTom, Navigon, Becker, and etc . . .) have a pedestrian program as well ;-)

Wow, how true, and shocking, I have never thought of this before!
Greetz,
Joseph
Regina, thank you. I hope all is well with you, your shot yesterday was stunning as per your usual photos, you take some amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteJoseph, I guess that getting old is one of those things that just happens to us, no premeditation or no forewarning. I think that one day I'll wake up and realize that I'm old but I don't think that's going to happen to me until I'm in my late 80's! (The denial phase). ;-) Have a fantastic day.
Me thinks you need a sat nav before you go walking out again lol. The photograph has a haunting feel to it, very ghost like.
ReplyDeleteSi
Si, I think that you're right! lol The university is pretty desolate in the evenings, only a few students left over from day classes working their butts off to succeed or there's the few of us who take night classes. I don't like night class I've learned but what the heck, not like I do much in the evenings besides homework anyways. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great photo, darlin! The comment by that gentleman is bittersweet. It's true, too.
ReplyDeleteI have a really good sense of direction so I hardly ever get lost, luckily. However, I've come to rely on my GPS system when driving new places...I just LOVE it. It makes traveling so much easier. Joseph is right...there are systems that can be used for walking, too. My daughter has an IPhone with a GPS.
Cheryl my next phone I get is going to be an IPhone, the more I hear about it the more I want one. I don't even have the GPS yet but this city is pretty easy to get around in, I only get lost it seems when I'm walking! lol
