Life on the Farm

Today was quite the day, I didn't do much but I did a lot... if that makes any sense. I weeded some of the garden and cleaned up the side flower bed, I did a bit in the front flower bed as well. My back, fingers and knees know they worked today even though it didn't seem like work. I also shot quite a few photos today, I'll share some of my favorites... that's such a silly thing to say, why would I share the ones I don't much care for? ;-)

I love the color in these flowers.

Flowers are those little colorful beacons of the sun from which we get sunshine when dark, somber skies blanket our thoughts.
~Dodinsky
Another "colorful beacon"...

I've always wanted to see if I could capture a hummingbird, today I did! I love hummingbirds, they intrigue me.

And tonight we spotted two baby deer out back...

I posted the other photo first, if you enlarge this one it looks like the deer was photoshopped in, I don't even know how to use that program. The only edits in this next photo are cropping and playing with the exposure a bit.

Is it any wonder I love coming out to the farm? The only time there's a dull moment is when I choose to make it dull.

  3. Those are all great shots Darlene! I especially like the hummingbird though. It is so amazing to see how fast their little wings go! Even the high speed shutter on your camera isn't fast enough to capture them!

  4. Those are beautiful flower shots. And, hummingbirds are certainly one of the wonders of nature.

  5. Mustang this is only part time, the rest of the time the only birds I see in the city are in cages and the deer are in the freezer... sad but true.

Pam thank you. I'll check your garden Tuesday and try to link this in. Can you remind me for next Tuesday please.

Thank you Andy, it's amazing how fast their little wings go... me as a human only flapped my "wings" for a few hours of hard labor in the garden yesterday and I sure can feel it today! lol This will pass once I get out there again later today, homework first otherwise I won't get a single thing accomplished in the books.

Clint I love summer, the world comes to life and where I'm at we get way to many winter months. I celebrate each and every day I see green grass, birds, flowers, blue skies and deer frolicking in the back 40.

Have a wonderful day everyone, I hope the sun shines especially for you wherever you may be.

  6. Clint, I just took the "What Animal Are You Test" and here's what it told me:

"You are a Unicorn! Some people think unicorns are a myth... You are one of the most rare animals. Less than 2 percent of people that take this test are the unicorn. Unicorns are good an almost everything they do, and are very well liked!"

So I'm a rare breed... interesting, I've been told that in the past, now it's been validated! lol

  7. Heh ... I was a Unicorn too... I think that test is a confidence building... there were a few of us Unicorn's not so rare I am thinking...or alot of unicorns read Clint's blog....lol

Anyways...thanks for bringing home this weather!

  8. LOL Flora, are you saying that Clint's blog attracts Unicorns? He's drawing in rare breeds with his interesting writings? ;-) And I wish I could fly away and bring home sunshine, I'd be traveling 200+ days a year just to find the sun! But what the heck, you're welcome! :-)

Have a great day, thanks for the laugh!

  12. Thank you Saz, I was really wishing I had a stronger zoom last night... but no such luck. The deer are so beautiful, I've seen them walk right across the front lawn before. I wasn't so big into photos back then and have only the memory left lingering on. I just don't like it if they get to close to my garden, that's what there's a farm dog here for! ;-)

  13. Wow - cool flower shots, and deer, and a Hummingbird - nicely captured ! Did you use your 70-200mm lens ?

    Great shots Darlene !

  14. Rick thank you and yes I was using my 70-200 for the hummingbirds, I thought I responded to you but maybe that was on a different post? I'm soooo confused! lol The deer I useded the 75-300mm and still couldn't get them nearly as good as I would liked to have but ya can't win them all eh? ;-) I have however managed to shoot some very nice sunsets but you're going to have to wait until Sunset Sunday! Some days it's so hard to post just one shot, but I also don't want to get too carried away. I know once I'm back in the city the photos will dwindle down, I HAVE TO focus on some studies! It's already July and the summer is going to go way to fast.

How long do you figure it's going to take to get your camera back?

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  15. Ok - I'll be looking for Sunday's post for your sunset shot(s) !

As for the camera - Canon's website said 15-20 business days for repairs plus shipping time there plus shipping time back ... could be 6 weeks :(

I'm getting my P&S back from one of my daughters in a week (she has a new camera). Will see what I can do with that.

    Have a great Sunday !
