One of THOSE Nights

I've got so much on the go right now, I'm trying to get EVERYTHING done before I head back to university because it's going to be studies and nothing else for 4 months. I'm in 5 courses and two correspondence courses still have to be finished. I just want to scream sometimes ... so I think I will! lol

I have company coming from out of town this weekend and they're staying Friday night so I thought it's about time to get my half bath finished. I had the new vanity installed a few weeks back and today I went and picked out some ceramic tile for a backsplash. I've never worked with ceramic tile before BUT I watched a video on YouTube so I figured it all out... sort of.

Prep the area, check. Try the tile, check...

YouTube never said anything about filling in cracks before trying the tile and you guessed it, a stip of my tile fell into the crack and there was no way of getting it without taking out the entire vanity. I thought no worries, my little secret, and I thought I should still have enough... so I carried on.

ONE strip short of finishing, one tile that's behind the vanity! Some nights are just like this... as Forrest Gump said: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Tonight I got the one I don't like but life goes on, tomorrow is a new day and Home Depot won't be sold out of these tiles.

Oh, by the way, this is the last pink room... there's still a bit more painting in this house but it's just going to have to wait. This half bath is the last room I'm making time for until ... well until I get to it!

The End.
:-)

  1. I admire your will to learn, I am too lazy now:) It was easier in the school times...

  2. When I started working for myself I had never done any tile. One of my semi-regular customers asked me to do some for her and I said that I had never done it so she should find someone else. She said "Nonsense! It can't be that hard, you'll figure it out!" So I did! :) Since then I've done more tile than I care to remember. It's not my favorite thing to do!

I've had plenty of those times that I lost or ruined the one piece I needed to finish the job! Don't feel bad, you're not alone!

I like Forest's saying but my favorite is:
"Life is like a shower, one wrong turn and you're in hot water!" :)

    Have a great week!

Me...I get crazy during these installations.

  5. You are a glutton for self-inflicted punishment, aren't you ! Are you trying to get 3 lives' worth of living squeezed into one ? ;-) jk

Great job, Darlene - tiling is something I haven't tried, other than doing a repair job. You've really turned your house into your home !

What are you going to do with all your time when you're finished your courses ;-)

  6. Funny my hubby always jokes when company is coming to stay over, "Honey what color paint do you want?!!" of course in some ways he's kidding! ha ha ! I love your using Youtube for steps! I use it too....sometimes you have to be careful with some stuff on there...but you sure are becoming a great decorator and I'm sure you can figure it out! Sounds like you have quite a work load ahead of you..take some time to relax too before all the heavy mind stuff arrives! Have fun with your company and I can bet there will be grilling on your new patio too! Enjoy!

  7. Darlin, still looks a great make-over even though you're short on some tile at the moment. You must be proud for having a go, I usually try some diy but not so much as I use to. Nothing quite like getting on with things & not relying on others to step in! I'm sure your viistors won't mind if not completed. You really do try so hard! Just hope you allowing yourself some relaxing time this weekend! Take care!

  8. I have projects that take frustrating turn like that. Like the quilt I'm working on. I realized after I got all the little squares done, that I had done about 1/3 of them backwards. I decided to go ahead and finish it that way rather than redo it--it will be a good lesson to me to slow down and recheck everything! Ha! Not the same as a bathroom, of course. I admire you for doing things like this yourself. I am so NOT handy at such things. Good for you!

  9. ok enough with the diy, the house cannot have a square inch left to sort out lol

I'd love to sit you in a chair for an hour I'd bet it would drive you crazy lol, you don't seem to be able to sit still lol.

  12. Ola the desire to study is wearing thin right about now, it's been 4 years of studies but I only have one more year to go and I'll have my degree... I can't stop now! I didn't stay in school when I was young so now it's time to do some learning, the bonus is that I'm doing what I'm passionate about. I give up a little now to gain what my heart is passionate about. When I look at it this way it keeps me going. :-) Have a great day!

Andy it's interesting to hear how you learned how to do different things, you're such a handyman... do you ever get called Handy Andy? lol Enjoy your day!

Clint it wouldn't do me much good to get crazy doing the jobs I tackle in my home, I'm the only one here besides my dog and if there's nobody to listen to me getting all nuts what's the point? LOL Have a fantastic day! Oh and I just put the last tile on, tomorrow I'll attempt to grout and just may have to go a bit crazy with that one, I have an audience now... my niece is back for a while! ;-)

Joseph thank you and at this rate I'm going to have to put a collection jar on the vanity, to use the washroom will cost $1.00... to help pay for the materials! lol That would be hilarious... I just may do that to see what my nephew and his girlfriend have to say about it! Hmmm maybe a shower should be about $2.00 if that's the case eh? ;-) Cheers my friend!

Kathy thank you! I'm even almost impressing myself with this one, almost because the job is far from done. Tomorrow is another day. Have a great day!

  13. Rick I'm starting to think that I am a real glutton for punishment, this house is doing this to me... ya, that's it! Thank you, this house is feeling more an more like a home to me. I'm not at all worried about having too much spare time, I ALWAYS have something to do until I decide not to do anything... if that makes any sense. There's so much I still want to do, a photoshop course is on the top of the list, travel, take up yoga, the list goes on and on, oh right and get a job. ;-) Have a fantastic evening!

Karen thank you. That's funny about the paint! I'm trying to pencil in some time for me before I get back into classes but it's not working. I'll get through all of this somehow, I generally do and thus far I haven't been locked up in a white jacket so all is well in my world! lol I'm having fun decorating this house, this is the first time I've done such a huge job, generally it's only painting but this time I'm going all out. I plan on being here for a while. Have a fantastic day!

Shirleyanne thank you and I do plan on some time for myself this weekend, sort of. I've got a BBQ to go to and I'll offer to help but I'm not hosting this event so it's going to be totally relaxing! These do it yourself projects are actually fun, well the end result is and it feels so good when I step back and look at the finished project knowing that I did it! I'm becoming so independent and it feels mostly good, lonely at times, but it feels awesome knowing I don't NEED someone to do the work for me. Don't get me wrong, help is awesome and appreciated IF I ever get any. Have a fantastic day!

  14. Galen thank you. As for the quilt the only person that will ever know about it is most likely you, if you don't let it bother you then all is well. I find that when I'm doing things that I'm getting better with giving up perfectionism, that's a tough one to let go of. I still like things to look good, but they don't have to be exactly perfect anymore... well not all the time. I had the level out to check my tiles were even and I was shocked when they were! I'd love to see a photo of your quilt, can you post one or send me a picture? Have a great day!

Si I'll let you in on my little secret... well another little secret besides the tile falling behind the vanity! lol I blog so that I sit still and make "me" time every night. I love coming here and "visiting" with each one of you and just sitting back drinking my tea and allowing my day to unwind. So yes I can sit still! ;-) I just don't sit too long, I don't want moss growing where the sun don't shine! lol Cheers, have a great day!

Beverly thank you kindly, I've seen your skills on your blog and you've done so much! Your place also looks fantastic with the new renos! Have a wonderful day!

Flora thank you. I thought I might as well try something a bit different, the same old can get redundant and boring after a while and this time I can do whatever I want to this house. I LOVE it! Have a great day!

  16. Wong I love our technology today, all this information is sitting right at our fingertips! I'm able to do things today that years back I wouldn't have dreamed of doing, I'm a visual learner so instructions are pretty much useless to me. Have a great day!

  17. Wow Darlin! You really are doing a brilliant job with your home! It really will be yours when you are finished! Great job. (: Looks fantastic!
