Chicken Quotes

Tonight I'm posting some chicken quotes, I found the quotes online, the chickens are the babies which once were in the living room! All the quotes start with the million dollar question:

Why did the chicken cross the road?

BUDDHA: If you ask this question, you deny your own chicken-nature.

DR. PHIL: The problem is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE'.

FREUD: The fact that you are at all concerned that the chicken crossed the road reveals your underlying sexual insecurity.
OPRAH: I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GRANDPA: In my day, someone told us that the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough for us.
...and on that note, a very Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends!

Work In Progress

There's always something to do out at the farm, my work (if you call it work) includes gardening, both the veggie garden and the three flower beds; I also take over the kitchen, housework and laundry when I come to visit. There's plenty of other work always on the go out here, work that I just photograph.

For example: Vehicle restoration

Definitely work in progress.

Then there's fixing the work truck when something needs turning up or fixin'.

It never ceases to amaze what this man can fix, mind you, I suppose it never ceases to amaze him how I know how to bake or cook! ;-)

The rain came down this afternoon which gave me a bit of a break from outside work...

But the homework doesn't seem to end, a real work in progress I tell ya.

Kelty has never ending work, her job is to guard the farm which is a full time job.

Another one of the vehicles waiting patiently for work to be done to it, what's a few more years when you've been waiting this long?

I am blessed, life is amazing and I have so much to be grateful for... as for me, I hope to always be work in progress. Without work I stunt myself from personal growth, and stunting is illegal last time I checked!

This One's For Pam

Hi Pam, I didn't quite "get it", by that I mean I didn't see anywhere to post. I'm going to add the photo of the hummingbird here, or two, and you can link to it if you'd like. Have a wonderful day and thanks for inviting me to take part of your Garden Tuesday

And one more for good measure.

There's something about Hummingbirds which intrigues me, if they stayed still long enough I could sit and watch them for hours on end!

Life on the Farm

Today was quite the day, I didn't do much but I did a lot... if that makes any sense. I weeded some of the garden and cleaned up the side flower bed, I did a bit in the front flower bed as well. My back, fingers and knees know they worked today even though it didn't seem like work. I also shot quite a few photos today, I'll share some of my favorites... that's such a silly thing to say, why would I share the ones I don't much care for? ;-)

I love the color in these flowers.

Flowers are those little colorful beacons of the sun from which we get sunshine when dark, somber skies blanket our thoughts.
~Dodinsky
Another "colorful beacon"...

I've always wanted to see if I could capture a hummingbird, today I did! I love hummingbirds, they intrigue me.

And tonight we spotted two baby deer out back...

I posted the other photo first, if you enlarge this one it looks like the deer was photoshopped in, I don't even know how to use that program. The only edits in this next photo are cropping and playing with the exposure a bit.

Is it any wonder I love coming out to the farm? The only time there's a dull moment is when I choose to make it dull.

Down By The Riverside

I didn't seem to stay home long, tonight I'm back out at the farm. I figured I'd best get out here and tend to my garden, and naturally do some of this homework where the only noise I hear is the odd car passing by or the dog barking.
On the way here I stopped off down by the riverside to take some photos. I noticed the water is extremely high.

I love being in the country

I think what draws me to the country is my love of fresh air and feeling free, I feel connected and able to think clearly. City life is way to fast and hectic, but it's where I am to be.  Thank goodness for the farm, it's an ideal place to get away from it all and find myself. Recharge, rejuvenate and revitalize... yup, that's what I'm going to do.

First Birthday

My great nephew turned one recently and his birthday party was today. I'd never met my nephew before today and is he ever a sweetheart.
I think it's hilarious when parents give their children cake...

I remember these days all too well... I'm just glad it's not me that has to clean up after the wee ones!
Happy first birthday Declan, you're a sweetheart!

You'll all have to forgive me, I am swamped with "required" readings for a course I'm starting next week so you most likely won't see me commenting on your blogs until I'm through this one. I have to start focusing and buckle down, the holiday's over and it's time to gear up again. I'll try to keep up to my posts each day, I'm not sure if I'll be able to but here's to giving it my best shot! Til we meet up again, take care, do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do!

Rain, Rain Go Away

Today, after some much needed rest, I went out for a bit. The sun was attempting to shine but it didn't quite make it out and tonight it's pouring rain. I was going to cut my grass today, it really needs it badly, but that didn't happen. If this rain doesn't let up it's not going to happen tomorrow neither... poor Abbie will get lost in the backyard if I don't get the grass cut soon!

This is what it looked like, I've been told that there was maybe two days the sun was shining the whole time I was gone... I already miss Colorado's beautiful weather!

Homeward Bound

I awoke bright and early after a restless night, I think I was scared I'd sleep in and miss my flight. I went down to the desk at 7am, checked out and inquired about the shuffle only to be told there would be no shuttle service! I was not impressed, I asked why I wasn't informed of this the previous night, the desk clerk said the evening staff said they called me. I know different. I'll be sending a letter or an email to their head office. I got them to call me a taxi and off I went not allowing this to ruin my morning.

I left Colorado Springs with mixed emotions, on one hand I was anxious to get home to my place of comfort and near the people I love so much, on the other hand I wanted to stay. Naturally returning home won out.

My final sight of Colorado Springs... for now.

And it was up and away once again.

My son met me at the airport and when I got home I was so tired, it's going to take me a few days just to get back into routine. The trip was amazing and I'd do it over again in a heartbeat!

I'm Leavin On a Jet Plane...

Well it's my final night in Colorado Springs, I didn't go touring today, unless finding my way to the airport to return the rental car counts as touring. I was uncertain where the airport is and I figured that it was best to find it today then to be lost in the morning and freaking out that I'd miss my flight. I'll catch the shuttle in the morning, it's much easier this way and I'll be able to sleep tonight.

To wrap up my stay here I'm posting random shots.

I've posted plenty of mountain photos but there's a side to this amazing state which I haven't shown yet. On the drive to the airport there is flat land and plenty of blue skies. The sun shines in Colorado Springs 360 days a year!

I stayed at the Clarion hotel, the staff are what made my stay here enjoyable, they are extremely accommodating and very friendly. I wouldn't book in this hotel at regular rates, for the cost of a room here I could get a cabin 38 miles away from the city for a fraction of the cost.
The hotel serves a complimentary breakfast smorg style and if you like a beverage they have two complimentary drinks between 4 and 6pm. The hotel is a busy place, it's completely booked right now, maybe it's the convenience of being so close to the downtown core and I25, I'm not sure.

The state flower is beautiful, everything, or most everything, here is amazing!

I'm packed up and somehow I managed to get everything in my suitcase, I'm hoping it's not overweight! It helped that when I packed to come here I ensured I'd have room to take home a few things. I've learned that the prices in Canada are comparable to the ones here, the biggest difference is house prices, but I couldn't fit a house into my suitcase!

Farewell Colorado Springs, I hope to return one day... maybe even become a snowbird and enjoy my winters here!

Seven Falls

Today was a trip to Seven Falls, I made it to the falls and back to my hotel without a GPS... miracles really do happen! The trip was intoxicating, not the falls so much, but the scenery is astounding.

The falls were a trickle of water down a very large mountain, I was anticipating a cascade of water gushing down the mountain exploding at the bottom. With a name like Seven Falls I thought there would be seven falls, silly me!

As previously mentioned the scenery is astounding, it alone is worth the price of admission.

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul."
~John Muir

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything."
~William Shakespeare

"Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I recommend Seven Falls, not for the waterfall, but for the intoxicating beauty you will be immersed in.

Can You Spot It?

I went back to the Garden of the Gods today, there's something about being there which does something to me. Tonight while I was looking at photos I spotted something... I'm going to post the original photo and later on this blog I'll post what I spotted. See if you can find what I captured without even me even knowing it... and no enlarging the photo! ;-)

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
~John Muir

The way the setting sun shone down on this mountain held me in awe; I realized my smallness in this world and I felt a peace within.

Walking the "Red Road"...

Here's what you may or may not have spotted in the first photo...

I can't even begin to imagine how he felt standing on top of the mountain!

As I mentioned in a previous post... the Garden of the Gods is a must see if you're ever in Colorado Springs!

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

After visiting the zoo today I've come to the conclusion that life for animals in captivity is definitely One Day At a Time.

"One day at a time sweet Jesus, that's all I'm asking of you

Just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do.

Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus and tomorrow may never be mine.

Lord help me today
Show me the way

One day at a time."

Colorado Renaissance

Today was yet another wonderful day, I was picked up from the hotel by the staff of White Bison and we went to the Renaissance festival.  I've never attended a festival quite like this one, there was so much to see and there were some pretty amazing events taking place. My first photo I highly suggest you click on the link above and listen to the music they have playing on their site.

The individual playing the music on the site is this man, he plays the bells. The bells themselves are impressive weighing 4000lbs, if memory serves me correctly. The music was amazing, it reverberated through the depths of my soul.

Fairies fluttered about...

There were non stop shows all throughout the grounds. These two guys, Puke and Snot (I know quite the names!) were hilarious. I haven't laughed so much at a show in a long time.

The Washing Wenches also put on a hilarious act!

The camel thought they were funny!

And what would a Renaissance festival be without a joust?
This is the "good" guy... he can joust with me anytime! ;-)

The few shots of the "bad" guys, who naturally were slain.
The King and the Queen... oh forget them, here's one more photo of the "good" guy! lol

And naturally food was served so I had to partake.

Try being a lady eating this chunk of meat! This drumstick was so tasty... absolutely delicious, but way to much for one person!

I shot so many photos today it was extremely hard to decide what to post but I figure I'd best stop here. If you're ever in Colorado when the Renaissance festival is going on check it out... I give it two thumbs up!
