Art Gallery

Today was a trip to the Art Gallery of South Australia, it's an amazingly beautiful building, one which my point and shoot didn't do much justice to but I didn't feel like packing my camera with me today, not with having to do some shopping as well. The following photo is only a portion of this Gallery which goes on and on. I might, if time permits, return with my Canon, there's some pieces I'd love to capture.

I find it rather interesting, what some view as art I just don't get it, I guess that's why there's so many different styles of artwork out there. Take this one for example, what is Del Kathryn Barton depicting? ... or do I really care to know?

There's an Aboriginal section, actually a few of them, but here's one small section, or a portion of it..

And this next shot, I love this; this is definitely one which I'd love to return to take more photos of.

If you're ever in Adelaide and have an appreciation for the arts this is a must see, but plan on at least a few hours to go through the entire gallery. The price is right, it's free admission.

  1. I know exactly what you mean about "not getting" some art! Our outdoor art studio Franconia Sculpture Park, has many- "what was this artist thinking?" It's all in the eye of the artist's mind...right! I really like that deep (pull you right in) brown in the gallery, it's pretty much how I painted of a couple of my own walls! Thanks for a peek inside there!

    1. Karen the colors in the gallery are so rich, they do pull you right in as you mentioned. Have you ever walked in to someplace and immediately wished you'd chosen to dress differently? That's what this place felt like with it's richness and me in my blue jeans but I was drawn right in and soon forgot about what I was wearing.

Art is definitely in the eye of the beholder, there's some types of abstracts which I like, some I shake my head at and one comment I made to my flatmate was "I'd love to have this artist alone for a while and psychoanalyze their thoughts", just to know what they might have been thinking. Then I changed my mind when I seen a few more! lol

      Have a great day!

  2. The free admission sounds good......it's just the cost of GETTING there that is stopping me!
Next best thing.....I will simply enjoy you sharing the experience!

    1. Linda I totally hear you in regards to getting to Australia, it's not cheap by no means, but sometimes you just can't put a price on education... or a well deserved break! As for sharing the experience, I've had a ton of fun sharing my adventures here. I remember sitting at home and reading others blogs wishing that I could travel and see other parts of the world and take amazing photographs; little did I know that this education would lead me to do so and what an experience this has been! An amazing experience to treasure forever.

Have a wonderful day and I'll continue to keep Amber and the babies in my prayers.

  3. The one you don't like really gets your attention because of the reason you don't like it. What in the world is he trying to say?
