New Toy

My contract finally expired on my old mobile phone so the day after I returned from Australia I went out phone shopping, my oldest son and his wife payed for the phone for my Mothers Day/B'day gift, thanks Shayne, Sandy, and Elyssa.

There's a lot out there to choose from, most of them I don't have a clue how to work but I bit the bullet and got the latest Droid. I have 14 days to decide if this is the phone for me or not, so I guess I'd best figure it out and start playing with it a bit more than I have been.

I spotted this on facebook and thought I'd share it...

... times sure have changed!

  1. Good luck with the phone. Bill has a new iphone but he/we are learning slowly. I'm hesitant to renew mine because I can't be bothered learning a new one. Our kids love them and do amazing things with them.

    1. Diane I was the same way, until this vacation. I never knew if I ensure this phone is unlocked and travel with it I can just pop in a sim card in the country I'm at and it'll work there. I could have used the GPS function many times! I've been bitten by the travel bug and hope to do much more of it in the future. My boys, one is a droid fan the other is an iPhone fan so I was torn between the two.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Beverly there's pros and cons, I miss that we used to pop in on someone just to have a coffee, today it's grab a Timmy's or Starbuck, phone in hand and text or email the other person... so many ways to communicate and nobody's connecting anymore. I miss that aspect of life, and unfortunately our next generation will grow up not knowing it. Then on the other hand, I've met you via computer, and technology brought me to Australia where I actually got to spend time with you and your beautiful family... pros and cons.

      Have a wonderful weekend, cheers.

  4. You'll love your new phone! I've been a droid fan for years, though I am thinking of switching to iPhone because there are better photo apps.

    1. Pam I think that I'll stay with this one, I don't have a clue about apps, or connections or anything when it comes to these phones, I'm sure after 3 years of this one I'll have it all sorted out. Maybe by then they'll have a phone you just talk to... oh wait, I can do that already and it types for me on texting! I love that feature. Have an awesome weekend, cheers.

  5. I wish I'd had a two-week trial of my current phone, don't like it at all, one of those "smart phones", not made for phone dummys like me. I just want something I can make a phone call from, and maybe the odd text!

Life before computers, was it better or worse? I guess they both have their advantages.

    1. Joyce that's unfortunate that you didn't get a trial run with your phone. I was intimidated with these new phones but I finally bit the bullet and now I'm glad I did. It was hilarious yesterday, there's a feature where I can talk to my phone and it'll type in the text or email for me, the message was so garbled and funny that I sent it to my daughter anyways... forgetting that I have a new number. She responded with "Who is this?" lol I have so much to learn but these new phones sure can do a lot!

Have a wonderful day and gl with your new phone!

  6. An HTC is a very good choice, I am glad that you did not go with a SAMSUNG like you wanted to before you went to Australia. I still remember our blogger conversation :-D

    I am like an elephant -> Memory-wise, OF COURSE . . . LOL

In case your HTC turns out not to be what you have expected it to be, consider an Apple iPhone! Please, do not listen to those who prejudice Apple users . . . ;-) . . . :-D

    Have a beautiful weekend . . .

    Greetz,

    Joseph

    1. Joseph if you approve it HAS to be a good phone! :-) Apple is good too, my oldest son is using their phone and he had his replaced for free when there was an "oops" with it, not many companies will do this.

And naturally memory-wise, not like me where I have sticky notes to remind me where my sticky notes are! lol

Cheers my friend, enjoy the week!

    1. Galen I darn near choked on my cuppa, that's hilarious. I'm not keen on these yet but if I can earn a degree I'm sure I can learn these phones! lol

      Have an awesome week!

  8. Yes , things can get complicated. These new phones can do everything except cook!
    Good luck figuring things out.
Some of these phones can be used by birders when they're out in the field trying to identify a bird.

    1. Red that's a good idea, to look up things when I'm uncertain and make it look like I know everything! LOL It is a complicated phone, but I figure I'm a complicated person so we should get along just fine! lol

      Have an amazing week!

  9. Well, looks like you're getting settled back into Alberta life. Before I go any further, that Elyssa is such a doll - I hope you didn't squeeze her too hard when you first saw her again ! And a lovely (and thoughtful) family you have.

As for cell or smart phones - don't want one. I spent years tethered to work via a cell phone and pager - 7x24. And I grew up with computers (right back to mainframes - yep, the 'dark ages'). But I don't need to stay connected to the world 7x24 anymore. If someone really 'needs' me now, they'll find me - if I want to be found, that is. Thanks for the chuckle.

Have a great weekend, Darlene !

    1. Rick thank you and I think I scared Elyssa more than anything unfortunately. It took about 15 mins. or so and she came around. I do have an extremely thoughtful family, I keep trying to make time to blog about Sunday and will go and do that after I'm done here but wait til you see what my children did for me!

The cell phones, it's a convenience for me and I was never tied to one such as you were. Having a new phone very few people have my new # and I think that I'll keep it this way for a while. I never used to want to be found neither, I'm over that now! lol

I did have a fantastic weekend thank you, I hope you did as well. I have some catching up to do here. Life has been busy, but enjoyable, totally enjoyable.

Have a wonderful week, it's good to hear from you as always.
