Today was one of the longest days of my life, 39 1/2 hours to be precise! Allow me to explain...
I started out in Adelaide, SA and officially, as anyplace else, it was June 1st at midnight. I woke up at 6am to prepare for my flight home to Alberta. My first flight left Adelaide at 11:25am, it was time to say c' ya later Australia.
I flew to Auckland NZ and landed there at 6:10pm, the flight was only a 4:15 hour flight. The sun was setting as we were flying in and it was beautiful!
At 8:00pm I was in the air once again heading for Vancouver this time, this flight was 13:15 hours long, but we landed about a half hour early, the time was 1:45pm and it was still Friday, June 1st.
The stop over in Vancouver was the longest, the plane didn't leave until about 7:30pm, an entry from my journal goes like this:
"I'm losing steam and feel like I could curl up on this bench and sleep for the next 2 hours - I would if I knew someone would wake me up in time for my flight."
Yup, I was getting exhausted! And no I never fell asleep in the airport, I was too worried about missing my connecting flight. The bonus of such a long day is as we were heading into Alberta I got to see another sunset, I was exhausted but elated when the plane landed at 10:00pm... and it was still two hours to go until June 1st ended!
If you're ever wishing you had more time in your day, be careful what you wish for, sometimes wishes come true and this makes for one long day!

I'm sure you slept like a log when you got home.
ReplyDeleteHorst the funny thing is I didn't. It's all going to catch up to me, but I'm getting ready for a round the clock sleep one of these days when it does finally catch up to me. I only slept 4 hours last night and here it's almost 1am again... soon I'll get back on track, I hope! lol
DeleteWhat beautiful photos Darlene, glad you made it home safe - good luck with catching up on some sleep.
ReplyDeleteThank you Beverly, the sleep hasn't happened quite yet, but it's coming I'm sure!
DeleteThat's quite a mathematical calculation? Two sunsets in one day?
ReplyDeleteYou have to have a lot of stamina for these flights.
Red with all the different time zones I flew over that's what the calculations worked out to be. I was 16 1\2 hours ahead of Alberta time being in Adelaide so somehow that's not working, but it all worked out... I'm sooo confused now and would have to go back to my trusty journal! lol Have a great week!
DeleteI don't envy this long trip...these are disadventages of travelling but the pluses are of course worth it!
