This past few days I've been putting together a video for a group I'm proud to belong to, it's the Aboriginal Women's Professional Association. The video involved going through over 700 photos, editing them, picking the songs, and putting it all together in a program I love, Windows Movie Maker. I don't care as much for the newest version of it but I managed to pull it all together. The finished project was a 17 and 1/2 minute movie and I was very pleased with it. I'll see if I can get permission to post the video on YouTube, if I can a link will be forthcoming, it not... well you're going to have to trust me when I say it was a great video! ;-)
After the luncheon I went to a Powwow at Enoch, I'm going to post a few photos here to show you the work which goes into the regalia, it's amazing what people put into their costumes, their dance, the entire Powwow; the powwow was a huge success in my opinion.
This little girl stole a piece of my heart, she's so adorable!
Amazing beadwork.
Graceful...
The young men...
Respect...
Unity...
Elegance
I shot so many photos today, it was so hard to pick only a few to post. I hope you get a sense of awe and wonderment from these photos as any Powwow I've been to has left me with this. It was an amazing way to spend a day, one I hope to replicate before this summer ends!

Most people have no idea of the culture the aboriginal people have. it took me years to learn a bit so that I can understand it's importance not only to the people themselves but others.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed at the beauty in costume and dance. Thanks for showing the pictures.
I agree with you Red, I never understood, nor did I try to until I was led to studies and studied about my heritage, then I became angry. I'm no longer angry, my anger has subsided and now I'm extremely passionate about learning more about my culture. I embrace who I am and I'm finally feeling whole.
DeleteHave a wonderful week, looks like we may have to start building one heck of a big boat soon and load up a female and male from each of our animal species! lol
Cheers.
Beautiful photos Darlin, wish I could have gone with you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Horst, there's a lot more Powwow's going to transpire throughout Alberta, if you want I can send you a link on where they'll be held.
DeleteHave a wonderful week, take care and stay dry! :-)
Oh, I wish I had been there to hear it and watch the dancing.
ReplyDeleteGalen if you've never been to a Powwow I highly suggest you find out where they are being held around you and take one in. There are so many positive energies in the air and the drums keep rhythym with the heartbeat, I feel alive, truly alive, when I go to Powwows or hear the drums. I can feel my heartbeat and what a feeling that is!
DeleteHave a wonderful week! I hope you made it through my comment the other day, I must have been in a writing mode! lol Cheers.
Oh yes, I remember a few posts about this (it's been a while though! What amazing colors and beauty ...and all hand made right? Great photos! Must have been quite a fun adventure together!
ReplyDeleteWow Karen, excellent memory! The last time I blogged about a Powwow was about 2, or was it 3 years ago? I'm going to have to go back and check it out. I remember it was in my final diploma year because I did a placement at a Native based recovery center... that would have been in 2010 if I'm thinking straight and right about now I'm not! lol I love how I feel whenever I attend any type of Aboriginal event, be it a ladies get together, healing circles, the powwows or wherever I may end up, I feel a connection... it's difficult to describe, yet quite simple. I feel connected spiritually. Ya, that's it in a nutshell.
DeleteI'll be by to visit one of these days real soon, life's been busy on this end and tonight I can't wait to crawl into bed, I'm wiped!
Have a wonderful week, cheers!
